The Healing of Two Demon-Possessed Men

Matthew 8:28-34

Introduction

This story is also told in Mark 5 and Luke 8.

Takes place in the region of the Gadarenes, which is a few miles southeast of the Sea of Galilee, on the east side of the Jordan River.

The men lived in the tombs and were very violent.  One of them was named “Legion.”

Jesus Cares About People  (vs. 28)

Earlier in the chapter Jesus touched and healed a man with leprosy. (Matt. 8:1-4)

He didn’t avoid the demon-possessed men.

We shouldn’t turn our backs on others.

Jesus Places A High Value On Human Life  (vs. 30-32)

He was willing to sacrifice the pigs, but He wanted to save the men.

Jesus is the only Saviour and we must seek Him… Deut. 4:29

The Christian life involves daily surrender…Matt. 16:24

Are We More Concerned About People Or Possesions?  (vs. 33-34)

The people pleaded with Jesus to leave the region.

They were more concerned about the pigs than the two men.

Love God and love people…Matt. 22:37-39
