Focusing on the Mission Part III: ‘Reaching Out’

2 Corinthians 4:1-6

– Today we continue our series on Rosedale’s Mission Statement with a look at 2 Corinthians 4 which helps us to internalize several key convictions about our mission to ‘reach out’

I. Our Ministry (v. 1)

  1. Rooted in the New Covenant (2 Cor 3)
  2. Given to us as a gift of God’s mercy
  3. Understanding the nature and importance of our ministry helps us not to give up when the going gets tough!

II. Our Method (v. 2)

  1. We renounce:
    1. Underhanded ways
    2. Cunning
    3. Tampering with God’s Word
  2. We embrace:
    1. The open statement of God’s truth
    2. The corroborating evidence that comes from the human conscience

III. Our Mission Field (vv. 3-4)

  1. Those who are perishing without Christ
  2. Those who are blind to spiritual truth
  3. Those who are under the oppressive power of Satan

IV. Our Motives (v. 5)

  1. To exalt Jesus Christ as Lord
  2. To help blind men and women recover sight (Acts 26:18)

V. Our Message (vv. 6)

  1. We preach Jesus Christ
  2. God creates new spiritual life, by shining light into the darkened heart and opening blinded eyes to ‘see the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ’
